Part 3 of the Human Energy Field video podcast series

As a brief review, remember that Part 1 described the convergence of modern science and ancient metaphysics on the idea that subtle vibrational energy manifests into denser and denser forms ending in the material world of our senses. And Part 2 described the descent of the human energy field from the subtlest Nadis through the Mental Energy Body, the Emotional Energy Body, the Physical Energy Field, and finally into the physical body.

Today we are going to discuss the system of chakras or energy centers in the body. This is a term that you may have encountered before because it has gained quite a bit of popularity. Despite that popularity, it’s extremely interesting that the system of chakras really isn’t emphasized in oriental medicine, and I suppose that’s because Traditional Chinese Medicine as taught in acupuncture schools doesn’t teach a method to treat the chakras in any way. I’m going to present the chakras in a slightly different way that will unify the system of chakras and the system of the acupuncture points in a later podcast.

The chakras are pervasive in all cultures

It’s really amazing how widespread the idea of chakras and energy centers really is. Religious art from all cultures depicts energy centers in what are commonly called halos surrounding people’s heads. I use the word people here because these halos are not restricted to just gods and angels. It’s clear that people at some level of spiritual development are viewed as also having halos What’s surprising is that the system of chakras is also depicted in one of the most common symbols associated with modern medicine, the caduceus. I’m sure you’ve seen this image before. It actually is a direct symbol for two of the chakras and the main energy channel in the body. I’ll bet most doctors would be shocked if they knew the metaphysical nature of this image. So, let’s start with this main energy channel…

The main energy channel

The main energy channel goes from the base of the spine to the top of the head. It goes by different names in different cultures. In kundalini yoga it’s call the Shushuma. In esoteric Chinese medicine it’s called the Taiji Pole. The agreement among cultures is that it’s the main energy conduit in the body and it connects each individual human being to the universe. The importance of this channel cannot be over emphasized. In fact, in esoteric Chinese Medicine this main channel is said to be established in the fetus after the first few cell divisions in the formation of the body. Everything else forms from it.

The chakra energy centers

The energy centers, or chakras, come from within the main energy channel. In different cultures, there are different numbers of chakras, but the most universally accepted model consists of seven primary chakras located in the body along the main energy channel. These chakras extend from the middle of the body to specific locations on both the front and the back of the body known as GATES. There are five gates on the front and back of the body plus the crown chakra on the very top of the head and the root chakra at the base of the spine.

Previous podcasts described the information component of the building block energy, Qi. That information component is often described as frequencies of vibration… and the important thing to understand is that each chakra is sensitive to specific vibrational frequencies… or types of information. The centers both receive information from the universe and send information to the universe. They are in a constant state of information exchange. In a sense they are like central switching stations to move specific kinds of information and energy around in the body.

The three most important chakras

All seven chakras are important, but three seem to get the most attention. They are associated with the three energetic regions of the body known in Chinese Medicine as the Lower Dantian, the Middle Dantian, and the Upper Dantian. There are specific acupuncture points for these regions that match the locations of the chakra GATES on the body.

The navel chakra is at a point just below the belly button. A keyword associated with this chakra is Dynamism. It’s extremely important for the physical body and the physical energy body. It’s the most important energy center in the martial arts for both physical power and grounding. It’s the energy center related to desire, particularly physical and sexual desire… but also to the desire for power and, in the most negative sense to greed. It links directly to the Qi of the kidney and bladder meridians.

The heart chakra is located in the center of the chest. The keyword for this chakra is Empowerment and it is strongly associated with the emotions and the emotional energy body. This chakra is linked to the Qi of the heart, lungs, and circulatory system. It is also regarded as the main center associated with internal feelings of compassion, love of humanity, and empathy. Negative energetic manifestations of this center include the inability to give or receive love. This center is the gateway for agape, or spiritual love.

The third eye chakra is located between the eyebrows. In acupuncture, it’s associated with the Yintang special point. The keywords for this chakra are Perception and Control. It is strongly associated with the mental energy body and, hence, with thought and thought forms. Negative manifestations in this chakra are associated with overemphasis on the rational mind, seeing only the obvious… but positive manifestations focus on clairvoyant sight.

These three chakras establish what the ancient philosophers of China called the relationship of man being between heaven and earth. The third eye chakra establishes the human being’s link to heaven. The navel chakra establishes the human being’s link to earth. And the heart chakra establish the human beings’ links to each other.

Imagine looking at a physical body from the side with the front of the body at the top and the main energy channel in the middle. The physical energy body, emotional energy body, and mental energy body radiate outward to different distances. And the Nadis connect this energy system to the universe. The chakras emanate from the central energy channel and permeate all the energy bodies both on the front and back of the body.

The seven chakras are not the only energy centers in the body. There are many others. For example, there are smaller centers in the palms of the hands… and as you’ll see later on, the individual acupuncture points are small centers of energy. Focus on the information component of Qi. In that sense, the chakras are the major points for processing information in the body. More refined information processing is done in other energy centers and in the acupoints.

The energy of the universe at all vibrational frequencies moves in the central channel. The chakra takes the vibration frequencies that it responds to and passes them on to its energy sub systems. One of the small energy centers takes the vibration frequencies that it responds to and passes on the energetic information… perhaps to one of the organs in the body. This all works great until something is out of balance and distorts the flow of information… but that will be the subject of future podcasts.

This new chemical is bad news and most filters don’t remove it

Let me ask you… would you be concerned about getting cancer, fetal damage, genetic damage, digestive problems, spleen damage, liver damage, kidney damage, and lowered immunity from drinking water? Of course you would! Well, it’s time to jack up your concern to ultra-high levels because there’s a new chemical kid on the block that many municipalities are dumping into your water supply in order to “purify” the water you drink… and your water filter – the one you spent hundreds of dollars for – may not remove this new kid.

While I admit creating safe drinking water has never been a simple matter, least of all today in our toxic, highly-chemicalized world, modern water purification methodologies seem to be getting themselves deeper and deeper in trouble in seeking out inexpensive ways to solve the problem. Chlorine, the inexpensive chemical of choice of the US public water department for decades, is now being replaced in many areas with another inexpensive chemical, Chloramine.

It seems that the danger of the carcinogenic by-products that chlorine leaves behind once it has evaporated, such as trihalomethanes, have finally registered enough concern with the government that they’re trying to reduce the amount of chlorine used in our water; but now there is concern that this smaller amount isn’t enough to do the job everywhere.

This leads us to the new kid on the water block, chloramine, which has been chosen in many parts of America as a replacement for chlorine where the water treatment problem is bigger than the new lower guidelines of chlorine can handle. What water treatment plants in America like about chloramine is that you can use a very small amount as it doesn’t evaporate like chlorine and it sticks around to do the job; however, they’re willing to overlook the fact that chloramine, a mixture of Chlorine and Ammonia, even in small amounts is still a dangerous nerve gas and new research indicates that it has a propensity to create even more dangerous by-products than chlorine, that may be even more carcinogenic.

A study conducted by the University of Illinois demonstrates that one of the by-products of the chloramination, known as iodoacids (EYE-O-doe-acids), may be the most toxic ever found in drinking water. The concern is not only the genetic damage it can cause in mammals (including humans) that drink chloraminated water, but also the fact that these dangerous chemicals are being released back into the environment where fish, wildlife, and the food chain may be adversely affected.

What we know for sure about chloramines demonstrates that they are both reactive and persistent — not only in water, but also in human tissue. One study demonstrated that after 5 days, over 95% of a single dose of chloramine administered to laboratory rats was still concentrated in tissues including plasma, blood, skin, packed cells, kidney, nerves, testes, thymus gland, spleen, liver, muscle tissue, bone marrow, etc.We now know that chlorination has contributed greatly to heart disease, cancer, and other serious health issues in our human population. There is no reason to believe that chloramination will prove to be less troublesome. In fact, just the opposite is likely.Notwithstanding this information, utility companies around the country routinely misinform their customers, telling them that chloramines are effectively neutralized by stomach acids before they can reach the blood. And if things weren’t bad enough, chloramine, unlike chlorine, is extremely difficult to remove from water. It will go right through most filter systems like carbon block and ceramics, and reverse-osmosis and distillers.

But there is hope; Catalytic Activated Carbon! More on this technology and how you can get it in a future post.

There is absolutely no question that smoking is a really unhealthy thing to do. There is a huge amount of medical evidence that smoking causes both lung cancer and macular degeneration. So, if you want to go blind and stop breathing keep on lighting up the cigarettes. Bottom line here is that if you smoke, the smartest thing you can do is stop. There are literally hundreds of chemicals in cigarettes and most of them are harmful. In fact, the focus on tar and nicotine is a “smoke” screen to keep you from understanding the really harmful contents of cigarettes. Cigarettes are known to be linked to problems including heart disease, strokes, emphysema, cancer, dementia, pain in the legs, frequent illness, and even brain dysfunction. From a Chinese Medicine point of view smoking means you are guaranteed to have a severe energy deficiency in the lung meridian and that means you will not produce the energy you need on a daily basis and you will be far more vulnerable to infections like colds and flu… and if you are a woman you will pass this energetic weakness on to any children that you have.

To quit smoking you’ve got to deal with the non-conscious habits

So what can you do about it? Most of the articles about quitting start by saying something like, “You can kick the habit, but you’ve got to want to do it.”  And somehow, that often doesn’t seem to get the job done, does it? Here’s the deal… the battle to quit really happens in the non-conscious parts of the mind because that’s where habits hang out. Granted, there is a physical addiction to nicotine, but that can be effectively dealt with. So the real struggle is the urge to light up that cigarette right after a meal or some other more entertaining activity. Make the connection to The Master Key System Course. In the first few lessons, this course teaches that you manifest the things you want in life through the Law of Attraction. You’ll find a lot of references to the Law of Attraction, but The Master Key Course really has the best training on how to make this happen in your life. Essentially, the idea is that it is the non-conscious mind where things like stopping smoking really take place. The conscious mind really just points the direction for the non-conscious mind and its best tool is the power of visualization. So, the first step is that you’ve got to really see yourself as a non-smoker. Mentally put yourself in the situations where you love to smoke and visualize yourself as not smoking. This is a 24 week course, but it will not only help you to stop smoking; it will change your life.

Nicotine patches, nicotine gum, and nicotine sprays… plus niacinamide

There are actually three challenges to stopping smoking… the physical addiction to nicotine… the psychological need to smoke… and the habits connected to smoking. The Master Key System approach helps to deal with the last two. The physical addition to nicotine can be effectively dealt with in several ways. First, you can try taking nicinamide. You can get that at any vitamin store. Niacinamide has chemical properties somewhat similar to nicotine and can help to reduce nicotine cravings. Another alternative is to use nicotine patches, gums, and/or sprays… and if you choose this route be sure to follow the instructions on how to gradually reduce the amount of nicotine that enters your body. Many people have found that the combination of the nicotine substitutes and niacinamide beats the addiction. One word of caution, though, if you a pregnant or breast feeding check with your doctor before using any nicotine replacement product.

Acupuncture for smoking

You may also find that acupuncture is useful to help to quit smoking. There are really two things that acupuncture can do. It can revitalize the energy in the lung meridian, and that will counteract some of the negative effects of smoking. Second, there are acupoints that are extremely effective in dealing with addictions, in general. These points are routinely used by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) trained acupuncturists and have been proven to be extremely effective with the most severe addictions. The NADA technique both calms you down and reinforces critical organs in the body… oh yes, there are also specific acupuncture protocols for smoking itself.

Hypnosis and “miracle” cures

Hypnosis does, in fact, work for many people who want to quit smoking… but you must be cautious about the person that you go to for hypnosis. Be certain that they are a certified hypnotherapist because, frankly, there are a lot a crackpots out there offering miracle smoking cures… and the general consensus is that the miracle “stop smoking in one hour” type of programs are pretty ineffective.

Remember, you can choose to quit and you can quit.
