The Importance of Drinking Safe Pure Water

“Your Body’s Many Cries for Water”

Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, author of Your Body’s Many Cries for Water presents the most convincing case for just plain water being a natural healer.   He called his book “a preventive and self-education manual for those who prefer to adhere to the logic of the natural and the simple in medicine.”  He was a member of an organization calling for a new paradigm in healing called the Foundation for the Simple in Medicine.

Dr. Batmanghelidj’s main contention was that our society is so product-oriented, when we drink liquids, it is usually coffee, tea, juice or sugary soda.  One of the biggest health fallacies is that we think these fluids are substitutes for water.  Because we don’t drink just plain water, our bodies are literally suffering from draught.

It sounds overly simplistic, but when you read his reasoning and research, it begins to make perfect sense.  Dr. Batmanghelidj explains that we often do not pay attention to the body’s many cries for water and most often, they are silenced with antacids or pain killers which he refers to as “pharmaceutical cocktails.”

He explains that by the time the mouth is dry, the body is in an extreme state of dehydration and non-infectious, recurring or chronic pain should first be viewed as indicators of body thirst.  When blood becomes concentrated from lack of water, it draws water from the surrounding cells causing dehydration in various parts of the body which often causes pain. All too many times, people confuse the need for water as hunger so they eat instead of drinking water.

An article published in the Journal of clinical Gastroenterology, June 1983, explains the doctor’s water therapy success with over 3,000 people.  In his book, he specifically describes his successes with dyspeptic pain, colitis, rheumatoid and arthritic pain, anginal pain, low back pain, leg pain, ulcers, migraines, chronic fatigue, hangovers and many others.

Because of our dependence on sweet tastes, Dr. B explains that when the body becomes dehydrated, humans seem to lose their thirst sensation often not recognizing their need for water.   He describes the many roles that water plays in the body, including lubricating joints, digestion, feeding the spinal fluids and providing adhesive in cell architecture.  In addition, one of the most vital roles is the fact that water literally ignites the electrical charge that carries energies to the cells.

He suggests that gastritis, duodenitis and heartburn should be treated with water alone.  In the case of an ulcer, he suggests the addition of a change of diet.

Dr. B cites many of his healing successes with just plain water, but one in particular stands out.  A young man had been suffering from ulcers.  When the doctor was called in, he was doubled over in pain, semi-conscious on the floor.  Shaking him to get a response, the doctor learned he had already taken three tables of cimetidine and a whole bottle of antacid however; they had done nothing to provide relief.

The doctor feared the patient might have “acute abdomen” or a perforated ulcer requiring surgical exploration.  Feeling the abdominal wall for rigidity, he determined that this wasn’t the case and decided to treat the patient with water.

When he suggested the man drink two glasses of water, he responded with great hesitation. The doctor then said to him, “You have taken the usual medications without any result.  Now, why don’t you try my suggestion.”?

The man drank the two glasses of water.  In fifteen minutes his pain had become less severe and his groaning had stopped. The doctor gave him another glass of water and a few moments, the pain disappeared completely.  It had taken three glasses of water and a total of 20 minutes to eradicate an ulcer attack.

Your Body’s Many Cries for Water offers a wonderful explanation of how vital water is to our health and the many physical ills that have benefited from the following simple suggestions.

          * Drink an absolute minimum of six to eight 8 oz. glasses of water a day.

(Alcohol, coffee, and caffeine-containing beverages absolutely do not count as water.)

*The best regimen to follow is to drink one 8 oz. glass, one half-hour before taking meals and a similar amount two and one half hours after each meal.  Two glasses should be taken before your heaviest meal and before going to bed.
